This New Horror Film Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a test for partners in committed relationships who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it could look like typical body horror, but inside Together exists a deep meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the two stars infuse a special spark to their roles, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when the couple transition from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, sure, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists tumble into an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a strange force begins influencing the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building of scares, blending elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something horrific). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

The couple grapple with the sort of issues that arise in most partnerships a decade in. Deep down, they still love each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory avoids being clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. Meanwhile, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
